The opposite of life I believe is death. Nothing can make
u want to live more except when death looks you in the face. Yet there is
nothing we can do about it. We are all going to die ……someday, hopefully not
today.
So before we check out, I got some crazy things I think we owe ourselves
to do before we die. So join me. Pick a pen, take this walk with me, let’s make
our own bucket list. Everything we want to do before we die.
First,
you have got to watch the movie by Morgan Freeman and Nicholson Jack. It will
kick in your very nuts. The craziness needed to dream big and give your life
the magic thrill and expectations of bucketing. Plus it explains in thousand
letters what I never can.
Top on the list for me will be a thrill seeker. I want to
fly like a bird. Take a plunge from the sky with the wind screaming in my ears
and a grin spreading my cheeks like a dog with his face out of the car window.
So it will be either skydiving……. the jump from a plane in chutes will give me a
life’s worth of adrenaline but if I never have that then its Bungee jumping for
me.
Either of them, yet in my ambition, am going for both. I love my
life….extreme sports will always give you a jump
Second on my list will be going on a road trip. I always
wanted to hit the road with my kids and wife and get the experience of
travelling places we never have been to. Perfect trip for me will me driving to
Ghana. Well, am Nigerian so it goes to say a trip to Ghana from Nigeria will involve
crossing Benin republic and Togo.
Not only are they French speaking unlike my
English speaking country, but the idea of taking a two weeks break with family
,experiencing the sights, sounds and tastes of new countries is my dream come
true. Sleeping in a new country each night and lapping up a life’s worth
bragging rights………
It will give me enough to ruminate over in old age and say to
meself…..I did it. Hmmmm
When you lie in your death bed, there are things that will
make your life most memorable besides the thrill. So next on my list will be
creating something. An original idea, concept, invention or plan.
Make your own
legacy to live on after you. In the absence of talent, sire a son to continue
your name, write a novel for posterity, build a company, invent an idea,
perhaps a new slang to leave in the minds of humanity. No matter what happens,
find your own space in the sands of time and place you crest.
In the light of the previous idea, I recommend you keep a
diary. A record of the most important things in your life. I believe it will be
nice to have your kids and lineage to know what you deem important to remember.
Those important family dates, births, information and legacy.
When grandpa
first met grandma, your motto for life,
your life changing experiences and moments. All that you would love to teach, entertain,
inform and educate them over. Who knows, in a thousand years, your memoirs
might be better than Martin Luther’s letters to his son…….or the declaration of
American independence…winks
Take a lot of pictures. Record moments in camera. Nothing
will give you thrills or kick memories like pictures to remember your
graduations, your youth or the laughter of your boy in his first birthday.
I
coveted those pictures my dad took as a young man. I think I probably stole a
lot of them and showed off the sexy dad I had. So take loads of pictures and you
will be amazed how much pleasure you will gain from going through them 20years
later.
Have you ever given to a needy or sick person? Nothing is as
satisfying as watching the smile and gratitude of the poor who receives a
million dollars. You can’t even beat the emotions of saving a life. So I advice
you, before you die, you need to save a life.
Make loads of money if you can
but if you can’t, with what you have, change a life. Give to charity, a needy
home and a helpless soul. Be good just because you can and see the joys of
healing the wounds of a needy soul.
When I say this please do not
laugh ok! Fall in love please. With all the love songs and romantic movies,
religious concepts, how can we live life except we have once loved? So I say
fall in love totally. Find someone you really admire and do not spare the
works.
Write love letters to this he/she and plan picnics for two. Candle light
dinners, walks in the beach or nights spent under the stars, talking about
future plans, stolen kisses and professions of undying love. Hey! please do
this at least once in your life. We need to love like our life depends on it because
we are meant to experience this.
Write a message and cast it into
the sea. I hope you have heard about messages in a bottle? Now is the time to
do that. Whenever you hit the coastlines, write a bottled message and cast it
into the sea.
Add in it your number and name or your postal address for it
would be nice for someone to read it and call you. who knows? It might be a trawler,
fishing in the North Pole. The more I think about it, the better it sounds. I
would like a non-English speaking Oman to call me with an interpreter to say
‘hey! I found your note’.
This I have done so as an
addition, I guarantee its ability to deliver. Compete at something. Fulfill the
urge to throw wits, strength and will against a people in a competition of some
sorts. I did an endurance qualification test to get into the ultimate search
competition.
Believe me, it was crazy, fun and I never felt more alive. It was
nice to meet different peoples and try to outwit, outsmart them. Go kick it
people.
No matter how bad our voices are,
just go ahead and record a song you wrote all by yourself. You will always find
pleasure in playing it and promising yourself you had better musicianship than
Michael Jackson….snickers…
As an idea, grow an eccentric
beard. Maybe learn how to communicate in patua (Jamaican pidgin) and speak only
patua for a year. I advice you develop an eccentric hobby and habit you can have
fun with. Nurse it and have fun terrorizing or confusing everyone with it.
I just added this recently to
mine. The Egyptian pyramids, the Grand canyon, Stone hedge, the great wall of
china or sunset over a popular mountain u can climb and enjoy. Go back to
mother Earth, let her sights and sounds remind you how vast life is or how
small you are in a world. How life is not all about you.
There’s a bigger
picture in which we are just a part. Diving in the corrals alone says that.
Remember finally to visit
friends. Let their laughter warm you. Let their grief touch your sensitivity.
Let their pain empathies you.
We all need each other for a life’s worth
experience. Write that list and live to the fullest. There’s a lot we need to
achieve, experience, share and enjoy in life.
